Jade rollers have caught the attention of beauty enthusiasts everywhere. While they have always been a facial fave, these crystal creatures can now be found on the shelves in stores of Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, and even T.J. Maxx. Whether you have already purchased a jade roller or are still contemplating it, I think we can all agree that there’s one question that is running through our heads: does this really do anything at all? Before we tackle that question, let’s start with the basics, shall we? What is a jade roller and what does it claim to do? A jade roller is two sided handheld massage tool that typically holds two pieces of jade or another kind of crystal, one large piece and one smaller. The rollers boasts some seriously amazing claims. They are suppose to improve blood circulation and skin tone, reduce puffiness, wrinkles, and dark under eye circles, eliminate toxins, as well as improve lymphatic drainage, and collagen production. So basically, after using this tool you’re supposedly going to look like JLo after a facial. And I mean for 10-40 bucks who wouldn’t buy one of these bad boys? But are any of these claims accurate? I’ve been using a Jade roller for the past two months and while it doesn’t seem to be as life changing as it claims, I do keep a special place for it in my skincare routine.
How I Use A Jade Roller
I should begin by mentioning my jade roller lives in my refrigerator nestled between Greek yogurt and a bottle of salad dressing. Jade rollers should be kept in the fridge because when the jade is cool, it can really de-puff your skin. I use it either morning or night, depending on how much time I have. If I’m going out at night and have plans to do my makeup really well, I will definitely use this to de-puff and soothe any redness. I roll it around my skin in an upwards motion until the coolness begins to wear off, which normally happens in about 2 minutes. Back to the million dollar question: does this 2 minute motion really do anything? When I use the jade roller I find that it makes my face look less puffy as well as soothes any redness caused from acne and acne scars. No this is not some magic crystal that will solve every skin problem and yes an ice cube works just the same but hey, it’s a cute tool to add to your collection and something about rubbing a jade on your face feels luxurious and I think that’s worth something.
