How To Be A Better Shopper (Save Money and Get More Of What You Love)

Over the years I’ve accumulated many things. From makeup to clothes to skincare and reusable water bottles, I’ve been the girl to use under the bed as storage because I’ve always felt like I’ve had too many things and not enough space. The only issue is I’ve always had plenty of space, I simply had too many things (don’t tell my mom I admitted that!). Here’s the thing, I love shopping. When something inspires me and makes me feel more like me, I don’t want to let it go. Therefore, I buy it. Unfortunately, over the years those impulse buys leave me regretting my purchase and searching through a closet full of things that I only half-like. Since I would rather have a closet of a couple pieces I absolutely adore than a closet filled with half-likes, here are the tips I use to shop smarter

Leave To Make Sure You Need It

Sometimes you don’t truly know if you love something until you let it go. When I feel the urge to buy something but I have some doubt, I put it on hold and think about it. If I’m able to go home and forget about it, I don’t buy it. If I go home and daydream about it, then I know it’s worth having.

Compare It To What You Have

You don’t need another pair of white pants if you have 3 sitting in your closet. Before you buy something make sure you don’t already have something that looks exactly like it. It’s okay to have back ups of your favorite basics but you probably don’t need 3 hot pink, patterned jackets.

Use Poshmark

Poshmark is a great shopping source because you can find clothing in good condition at a discounted price. You’re definitely able to find a great deal if you search through the site. It’s also a great source for reselling items that you longer wear/use. It’s easy to set up an account and you can list the items at any price you’d like.

Don’t Follow Trends

If you’re following trends you’ll always be broke. While some trends stick around for awhile, others are out of style as swiftly as they came. It’s easy to see what everyone else is wearing and jump on that bandwagon, but it’s not beneficial. Stay true to your personal style and buy clothing that you love and can imagine yourself wearing for more than just a season. Your bank account will thank you.

When living in a society that will tell you you won’t be happy because you don’t have another shirt, it’s important to be mindful of the trap of consumerism and notice how you’re spending your money. It’s extremely easy to get into the habit of buying for the sake of it. These tips will help you to be above mindless buying. Comment below what your money saving tips are!
