Self care. It’s a term you see everywhere. Everyone is always talking about focusing on yourself and practicing self care. Some believe that self care is putting on a face mask and blasting music, others think it’s cutting out toxic people from your life. Self care means doing things that takes care of your mind, body and soul. It means engaging in a activities that promote happiness and wellbeing while reducing stress. Although sometimes media can portray self care as a silly, frivolous millennial past time, it’s actually essential for living a healthy, fulfilled life on a physical and emotional level. You can practice daily wellness and self care by:
Starting your day with exercise

It’s best to start your day with exercise because it promotes brain function, reduces stress, and releases endorphins that will put you in a good mood. It will also make you feel accomplished when you get a workout done before you continue with the rest of your day.
Making time for hobbies
If you’re all work and no play, you’re going to burn out. Life should be lived to the fullest and you can’t live life to the fullest if you’re not being intentional about your days and making time for activities that you enjoy. It could include going swimming, painting, reading a book, talking to friends, etc. Whatever it is, it deserves time in your schedule.
Eating delicious food

It’s not going to be everyday that you’re able to eat a 5 course meal. However, if you’re eating a plate of kale with two croutons, no salad dressing with a side of whatever was closest in the fridge, chances are you’re not enjoying your meal. You can eat healthy, nourish your body and still completely enjoy your meals. Take time to plan out your meals so can look forward to it.
Getting adequate sleep
Nothing will hurt your body and your mind quite like exhaustion. If you want to care for yourself and make sure that you have enough energy to pursue your goals and interests, you need to be well rested. Aim for 7-8 hours a night and be sure to shut down electronics an hour or two before bedtime.
Small, intentional actions done on a daily basis will improve the quality of your life. All you have to do is identify which actions make you feel your best. It’s so easy to get caught up in the desire to go, go, go. Take time to analyze what your daily habits are and if they are beneficial to continue. How do you practice self care? Comment below!
