Lately my days have not been very peaceful. This has been especially difficult for me because a few months back I made a major effort to have peaceful mornings. I used to wake up early, go for a scenic walk while listening to an inspirational podcast, and come inside to make a nutritious and delicious breakfast before the work day. As you can imagine, I felt good. This routine was easy for me to complete during the warmer months because sunshine and warm weather makes me more motivated to wake up early and enjoy my day. Now that New Jersey is fully in winter, I find myself constantly hitting the snooze button and snuggishly moving through my days. As nice as it sounds to sleep in, I would much rather have the drive to wake up early and be more intentional about my mornings. Morning routines are so important because they set the pace for your entire day. If you start your day feeling sluggish, chances are you will feel that way throughout the entire day (yikes). I think the best way to start a day is to start it peacefully. You put stress on your body when you constantly rush and do things that chase the next thing. Slow paced, meditative mornings will give you peace and clarity for the remainder of the day.

Make Time For It
If you want to feel at peace, you have to make time for it. Most of us lead fairly busy, demanding lives. If you live a life that never requires you do anything or be anywhere, then you are definitely in the minority (and we are all very jealous of you). If you work a 9-5 job and you have to be up at 7:30 in order to make it to work on time, you have a peaceful morning by waking up at 7:30, rushing to get ready. Instead you have to be intentional about your morning and wake up around 6 or 7 so that you can have time to do the things that make you feel good. I think a lot of us know what we need to do, but we fail to make time for it.
Eat Breakfast (without your cell phone)
Somehow the most important meal of the day tends to also be the most neglected. I am pretty much always guilty of checking emails and Instagram while I have my morning meal. While it may seem like the perfect time to start using your phone, you definitely
Meditate
If you want to start your day in a peaceful way, meditation is a great way to do it. Meditation increases self-awareness, helps manage stress, helps you to focus on the present and increases creativity. This is a great way to start the day because it increases mental function and and allows you to be more creative throughout the day.If you are new to meditation, know that there are many different ways to meditate. You could watch a guided video that focused on breath work or you practice sitting still and focusing your attention on the feeling in your body.
Read
This is one thing I never seem to make enough time for, but I want to make more of an effort to. When you wake up in the morning, instead of picking up your phone and filling your mind with junk, pick up a book instead. Reading is the perfect addictive escape because it helps with creativity, mental function, and concentration. When you read in the morning, you start your day with a more motivational mindset that will stick with you throughout your day. If you are working through personal development, you may want to pick up your favorite growth-oriented book to remind you of habits you would like to have. This is a much more peaceful alternative to scrolling on Instagram and being bombarded by toxicity as soon as you open your eyes.

Treat yourself with love and respect by being more intentional about how you spend your mornings. The proper morning routine could be the one thing standing between you and success, make yours count. Instead of rushing into your day, give yourself love by starting it with peace and love. These days many people prioritize productivity over peace, forgetting that it does not matter how productive you are if deep down you are unhappy. Value yourself and your mental health by starting your day the right way.
