As the new year approaches, many of us are trying to get real with ourselves. We are getting real with our habits, or emotions, our setbacks, etc. In the process, we are also setting new intentions so that we can overcome our struggles and have a chance at living the life we have dreamed of. It has been a rough year, there is no doubt about that. There have been challenges and disconnect and many have suffered. Although this year was rough, that does not mean that this past year’s struggles have to follow us wherever we go. You don’t even have to wait for a new year. It can end today. You cannot make an effective change in your life while remaining the same. Whenever I want to make a change in my life I switch the media that I consume. I am aware that I am a copy of my environment as well as an average of the 5 people I spend the most time with. Because of this, I am aware that if I want to make a real change, I cannot keep hanging out with the same people and be in the same environment I was in when I was stuck. How can I possibly make a change if absolutely nothing changes? One way I change my environment is by refocusing my energy from Instagram and that whole madness, to thought leaders who inspire me. One of those thought leaders is Marie Forleo. Marie Forleo is an entrepreneur from New Jersey (shoutout my fellow New Jerseyians!) who is huge inspiration to me because of how she overcame her insecurities and hustled hard to get where she is. Forleo stuck by her motto “everything is figureoutable” and persevered when others would have called it quits. Here are some quotes from Forleo that inspire me to work hard and continue when I want to give up.
“Fear isn’t the enemy. Waiting to stop feeling afraid is.”
“Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally. It comes from what you do consistently.”
“The key to success is to start before you are ready.”
“The most powerful words in the universe are the words you say to yourself.”
“Show up in every moment like you’re fully meant to be there.”
“Make your commitments stronger than your mood.”
“You’re always being led to your highest good, as long as you have the courage to listen.”
All of these quotes speak to me. The overall theme is that you need to have confidence and courage. When you believe in yourself you actions will follow. You are qualified, you are courageous, you are a hard worker. Repeat these affirmations back to yourself until you act as if it is true. If you want something you cannot just sit around like an entitled brat and wait for it to come to you (trust me, I have done my fair share of waiting, it doesn’t come until you go get it). Make this chapter in your life an intentional one. One where you fight for what you want and can honestly say that you did everything you could. If you work hard, you will receive. It is as simple as that. Believe in yourself and trust yourself. You won’t fail. Which quote stands out to you the most? Comment below!
