The past few months have not been good for anyone’s mental health. The world has been so chaotic and the goal of the media is to spew chaos at us all constantly (and in the most sensational and dramatic way possible). If you have been feeling down, you are not alone. Honestly, all the negativity has left me feeling less than optimistic about my future. While I still have hope, there is a lot that is concerning and it makes me feel really down. I try to avoid media time so that I will not be consumed with the drama, but sometimes it’s hard. There is a bit of a struggle to stay informed without being so lost in the drama. If you are feeling like me, keep these two points in mind:
Perspective is everything
Your reality is dependent on what you focus on.
There are tons of crazy things happening every single day. The good news is, there is also an abundance of good thing happening everyday. If you want to be happy, you cannot focus your attention on the bad. It is not easy, focusing on the bad is like watching a car crash: it’s so bad but you just can’t look away. Your mental health is so important and deserves to be protected. If you would like to promote peace and improve your mental health, here is what you can do to protect you sanity:
Limit Media Time
There is nothing like being in the present. Have you ever finished a meditation and just felt really good. You suddenly feel more connected and present than ever? As people, we are meant to be that way all the time, not just 10 fleeting minutes a day. In today’s world of distractions, it is extremely difficult to stay present. Mindfulness is so important because it creates a sense of peace and reduces stress and anxiety. Start by taking 5-10 minutes a day to sit and just be. Sit up straight and feel your body being held up by the ground, smell the world around you, and concentrate on the sensations within your own body. Practicing mindfulness will greatly improve your state of mind and your health.

Spend Time With Positive People
The people we spend time with play a major role in how we feel and perform. One of the best things you can do for yourself and your health is taking a good look at your friend group and adjusting as necessary. If you are spending time around negative people you will find yourself having negative experiences. It is as simple as that. If you want to be a high performer, you need to spend time around high performers. This could mean making new friends or even weeding out friend while listening to more podcasts where you will be introduced to more positive ideas and topics.
Learn Something New (expand your mind)
One of the best things you can do for yourself is allow yourself to have new experiences. As people, we crave evolution. If you do not exposure yourself to new ways of living, you will not be able to evolve and live a fulfilling life. Learning something new could mean traveling, visiting a nearby store you never go to, joining a club, etc. It means getting yourself out of your comfort zone and keeping an open mind.
Invest In Your health
The best thing to invest in is your health. Investing in your health means letting go of unhealthy habits, whether it be physical or emotional. That means ditching the junk food, the soul sucking friends, and the coach potato habits. It means doing better for yourself because you know that you deserve better. There are so many ways to improve your health. You could add more fruits and vegetables into your diet, get fresh air daily, or even practice meditation on a daily basis. This year I want to try some new workout classes, maybe hot pilates or aerial yoga, and continue trying new workouts on Youtube. I also want to continue taking vitamins, taking care of my hair and skin, and spending time in nature.
Although life has a tendency of throwing curveballs, you can be find peace in knowing that you have the ability to control how you view the things that happen to you. Perspective is everything and you have the power to control perspective. Taking steps to improve your health will lead you on a healthier and happier path.
Letβs grow together.
