If you have dabbled in the health and beauty wellness sphere, you are probably familiar with natural deodorant. In case you are not, let me fill you in. Traditional deodorant has been found to be harmful. Studies have shown that antiperspirants and deodorants are linked to diseases like cancer and Alzheimers. Traditional deodorant works by sealing off the body’s designated area to release toxins, stopping sweat. It does this by using a mix of parabens, phthalates, and artificial fragrance. While the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration confirmed that they do not have conclusive evidence that ingredients in antiperspirants cause cancer, there is something about blocking preventing a bodily function from occurring that makes me rather uneasy. Natural deodorant on the other hand, blocks odor but does not block sweat. Because of this, some have found that natural deodorant is not as strong.

I recently took a trip to Anthropologie and picked up the award winning Lavanila Sport Luxe Solid Stick Deodorant. The key ingredients are aloe leaf juice, corn starch, silica, lemon peel oil, honeysuckle flower extract, lichen extract, tea tree extract, goji berry, and botanical fragrance blend. Oftentimes natural deodorants will need an adjustment period of around a month before it starts to work properly. When using antiperspirant, the body becomes accustomed to the harsh chemicals or traditional deodorant and it will regulate itself. This means you may experience symptoms such as excess sweating and odor. However, this is not always the case. When I started using the Lavanila deodorant about a week ago, I braced myself for this transition period. I am pleasantly surprised to find that it has worked well from the very beginning. I have done HIIT exercises and dance cardio while wearing this and it has done a great job of keeping me odor free. I noticed slight odor one the first day (after having it on for around 10 hours) but after that I did not have any major issues.
