I Tried The Dunkin Matcha Doughnut… So You Don’t Have To

Calling all wannabe health-nuts who are actually junk food junkies! Haven’t you always wanted to eat a healthy doughnut? How amazing would it be if you found out that each buttery, doughy bite of a Dunkin Donuts doughnut was actually nourishing for your body? Fat chance, right? Well, Dunkin Donuts recently added a glazed doughnut with matcha powder to their repertoire. Before you get too excited, the Matcha doughnut is just a regular glazed doughnut with matcha powder on top. Because I never turn down the opportunity to try a new doughnut, my sister ( follow her food blog @eats_with_bri) got me the matcha doughnut. I’m not going to lie, I sort of had high hopes. I mean, I don’t even like matcha but I myself am a wannabe health-nut, so I was hoping I could feel semi healthy by opting for the Matcha topping.

Upon first glance, this doughnut is pretty. Green is one of my favorite colors and honestly it looks unique. It doesn’t have the classic colored frosted that we are used to seeing at Dunkin. It resembles the powdered doughnut, but with a go green twist.

I took my first bite and paid attention to eat taste. At first I was confused, it tasted just like a regular glazed doughnut. Then it hit me- the matcha flavor. Okay, if I am being fair, although I drink green tea everyday, I am not a fan of Matcha. The doughnut confirmed what I knew to be true. One taste of matcha on my tongue and I wanted to spit it out. It was so bitter. It reminded me of being a kid and having to take gross medicine and then immediately being rewarded with a spoonful of ice cream. The matcha powder is the medicine and the classic glaze is the scoop of ice cream.

Aside from the Matcha-dusted doughnut, Dunkin has a Matcha line that includes the new Blueberry Matcha Latte. This drink is made with a sweetened Matcha green tea powder, blueberry flavor and your choice of milk. You can also order a traditional Matcha latte if that is more your style. Because I have proven to strike out with Matcha, I think I am going to pass on those.

If you are someone who is into mixing flavors and you like the taste of matcha, I think you would like this. If you are like me and you want a doughnut to taste sweet, then I would opt for a jelly doughnut instead.

It’s not easy being this brave but I do what I can for society 😂 I totally support your decision. You are better off without it.
