Self Care Saturday: Being Present With That Summer Feeling

Happy Saturday, guys. We are now dancing through the dog days of summer and it couldn’t feel more free. I hope my fellow Americans all enjoyed fourth of July barbecues and fireworks this past week. As the sun has been going down later, I have found myself yearning to do more. The funniest thing about July is that as soon as it comes, it seems to go. It is normally around mid-July that I blink and then open my eyes to find that the leaves have started to change colors. Now that this summer seems to be pretty normal in the New York area (please stay at bay, COVID), I am really hoping to make the most of these hot summer days. In order to appreciate summer you have to appreciate the moment. Whether the moment provides you with a fancy, topical vacation or simply a moment in the sun on the sidewalk, make the most of the moment and appreciate it for what it is. These small simple moments make up your entire life. If you are someone who has trouble being present, here are some tips to be more mindful:

  • Sit quietly and follow your breath
  • Focus on one thing at a time
  • Spend time in nature
  • Focus on your food when eating

These small adjustments will elevate your day and allow you to truly enjoy the simple pleasures of summer. This weekend I have plans to go on a rooftop bar with friends, which is one of my favorite things to do. I plan to truly savor the moment by putting my phone away, taking time to admire the vastness of the New York City skyline, and focus on the flavor of my cocktail while I am sipping on it. What are your plans this weekend and how do you plan to practice mindfulness as you do it?

Here are some pins I found this week that give me that summer feeling. Enjoy!

I’m enjoying my summer so far. Just wish I didn’t have to work! My plan is to visit the shore a few times alone. I just want the experience of walking along the boardwalk by myself and taking everything in. Also, sitting on the beach and relaxing. Thank you for your post.
