4 Amazing Replacements For Your Morning Coffee

How many have you have tried to swear off coffee only to find yourself in line at Starbucks 5 days later? Don’t worry I’m right there with you! No matter how much I hear about the cons of frequent coffee drinking, I still struggle to quit it because coffee is just really good. It’s almost like a crutch. If I have to walk up early and tackle a long, tedious day of work ahead of me, I drink coffee not only to give me energy but to keep me company. There is just something about coffee that is charming and comforting, perhaps it has something to do with the fact that all coffee shops are so cute and cozy. Last March I created a tasty and easy at home iced coffee recipe and I got obsessed. I started to drink a minimum of two cups of coffee a day. At first this was glorious, I mean who doesn’t love drinking iced coffee and not paying iced coffee prices? After a couple weeks of this routine I realized that I was having stomach aches more frequently and overall feeling kind of sick. Even though coffee is amazing, it can increase stress levels, cause dehydration and heartburn, promote insomnia as well as cause stomach ulcers. These are some pretty hefty cons. If you’re looking to cut out your coffee addiction but you’d still like a go-to drink in the morning, try these options:

Hot water with lemon

If you want to clean out your body I highly recommend drinking hot water with lemon first thing in the morning. Regularly drinking hot water with lemon promotes hydration, supports weight loss, improves skin quality, aids digestion, freshens breath, prevent kidney stones and is a source of vitamin C. It feels like you’re giving your body an instant detox. This has been my go-to lately, as I am trying to clear my body of the sugary cocktails I consumed on vacation.

Green tea

Green tea is definitely an acquired taste but once you get used to it, it will be your go-to in the morning. Not only does green taste good (once you get used to it) but it also has a long list of health benefits. It increases immunity and prevents infection, boosts metabolism, prevents Alzheimers, Parkinson and Dementia, improves memory, and reduces the risk of diabetes. I absolutely love green tea and drink it all throughout the day. It is a great way to start the day and you will become just as obsessed with it as you are with coffee.

Chai tea

If you’re not really a big tea drinker and you are having trouble transitioning from coffee to tea, I recommend drinking chai tea before trying green tea. Chai is tea mixed with spices and herbs, such as cinnamon or cloves. It is traditionally brewed with milk so it has a more creamy, coffee taste. Chai is a low calorie drink teat promotes heart health, reduces blood sugar levels, aids digestion and helps with weight loss.

Fresh smoothie

If you are not into starting your day with a hot beverage, I recommend making a fresh smoothie. Smoothies are such a fun and refreshing drink to have in the morning, especially in the summer. You can get really creative and try out different fruit combinations. My personal favorite is a berry and banana smoothie with oat or almond milk. Smoothies are a great way to start your day with nutrients.

Fresh juice

Like a smoothie, fresh juice is delicious, refreshing, and the perfect way to start you day with nutrients. My go-to juice is kale, spinach, and pineapple. If you are not a fan of eating your greens, you may be surprised to find that you enjoy drinking them. Pineapple is a great fruit to add because it sweetens even the most bitter tasting juices.

Transitioning away from drinking coffee everyday is no easy feat. Replacing coffee with another drink will make the process a lot easier and will make you healthier. There are so many different options to choose from so make sure to pick the one that is most enjoyable for you! I personally drink green tea because it makes me feel light and clean. If I am in the mood for something a little more exciting I will make a smoothie or fresh green juice. What’s your go-to morning beverage?

I had to stop drinking coffee a few years ago because it the caffeine was giving me anxiety. It was definitely hard because I love coffee and used to drink it almost every day but it was also so worth it because I feel a lot better without it. Tea is a really great replacement and smoothies are my go to for breakfast!
