A few weekends ago my sister treated me to something my body and mind has been desperately craving: a massage. My job requires me to fly on nearly a weekly basis, and it has taken a toll on my body and my mind. The constant travel, combined with the stress of the holidays and the responsibility of living on my own for the first time, has left me feeling burnt out by the end of the week. I am sure you can imagine my delight when my sister offered to pay for me to get a massage so that I could unwind. She booked a 50 minute hot stone massage at Hand & Stone in Allendale, New Jersey. When I arrived at the appointment and spoke with my masseuse, she suggested that instead of using the regular hot stone, I use the Himalayan salt stones. This past year I made a greater effort to study wellness and what works best for my body. When doing my research I discovered the many benefits of Himalayan salt.

Himalayan Salt is a kind of salt that is mined from the Punjab region of Pakistan. Himalayan salt is known for its pinkish tint, due to calcium, potassium and magnesium. It is used as an alternative to table salt, and as well as for decorative pieces and for spa treatments.

Review of Massage
First of all, if you have never had a professional massage, or the last professional massage was 7.5 years ago, this year it is time to start treating yourself to frequent massages. Massage therapy is essential because it:
- increases circulation
- promotes relaxation
- improves sleep
- reduces anxiety
- relieves tension and pain
My massage therapist had a very firm and intentional touch. She made her way through my entire body, including concentrating on my neck, a part of the body that I find sometimes neglected by other massage therapists. The oil that she used on me along with the hot salt stone, opened my senses and left me feeling perfectly at peace. I remember during the massage thinking “this is exactly how may body is supposed to feel.”
After my session, I realized that I do not want this experience to be a once a year occurrence, I want to schedule a massage on a monthly or quarterly basis. This is a simple and effective way for me to feel more at peace and connected to my body. True alignment with the mind and body is the only way that I am going to live a fulfilling life.
