Why You Should Make A Weekend Away A Priority

A little getaway never hurt nobody! If there’s anything that most people crave, yet constantly neglect, it’s a weekend getaway. After a week of working nonstop and running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off, a getaway feels just as refreshing as that first sip of water after walking in the dessert. I know it could seem unnecessary, like a waste of time and money, but I assure you that this one thing could be what your soul is craving.

When I allow myself a break and an opportunity to fill my time with activities that I desire, I find that I feel much more happy, fulfilled, and eager to conquer my goals. Taking time away from your goals has a funny way of becoming the exact tool you’ve needed to accomplish them. This doesn’t have to be anything expensive, it could as simple as renting an Airbnb in a quaint upstate town and having a movie marathon. Or staying at a cool hotel in a city and spending your days trying all the local eateries. You could even take a trip to visit family and embrace being cooked and cared for.

Travel provides new experiences and new perspectives. This is critical for growth and overall happiness. Doesn’t life feel so much more enjoyable when you spend learning and doing new things? If you feel like you are in the market for a little retreat, here are some ideas of where to go:

Explore a nearby city

Living in North Jersey, I have always resided close enough to New York City that if I spent time there, it made sense to come back home. A few years ago for my birthday I decided to book a hotel room for my friends and I for the night. We went out for dinner and drinks before sleeping over at Hotel Indigo Lower East Side New York. It was so refreshing to turn a birthday celebration that would have been just dinner and drinks, into a getaway at a trendy hotel with a great view of Manhattan. Take time to research nice hotels in your city and choose one that is your desired aesthetic and in close proximity to interesting spots. Also check out AirBnB, you may be able to find better pricing.

Head Upstate

Nothing is more peaceful than a cozy cabin retreat. If you want some peace and quiet, take a refreshing weekend away to get centered. Use the quiet time away to practice relaxing self care. Light candles, go on a hike, throw on a face mask, and treat yourself to a facial. If you are in the Tri-state area, Woodstock, NY is the perfect spot for a retreat. There a tons of charming shops and restaurants, plus beautiful scenery and local spas that will make you feel rejuvenated. If you are in the area, stop by Glo Spa and treat yourself to luxury services like facials, a massage, waxing, etc. Come back home feeling fresh, clean, and calm.

Beach Getaway

Water has natural healing properties that reduces stress and promotes overall happiness and wellbeing. If you are someone who finds yourself to be more at peace around water, go on a beach getaway. Even in cooler months, sitting by a large body of water and listening to the waves crash will have soothing effects on the mind and body. Make an effort to spend most of the day outdoors and near the water.

Staycation

If you can’t afford to go on a short weekend getaway clear your entire schedule, get the family or roommates out of the house (if possible), and spend the day embracing the quiet and slowness of being in your own home with nothing to do. Treat it like a vacation by allowing yourself to neglect the dishes and any other house chores. Make the most of your space and try embracing it with a fresh pair of eyes.
