2 Ways To Fine-tune Your Goals and Set Yourself Up For Success

The new year always makes me feel exceptionally optimistic. Even though we are only a mere few weeks into 2021, it has already been quite the year. Despite that, I am still hopeful that 2021 will be a year of productivity, transformation, and fun. Although setting goals can (and probably should) be an action that takes place throughout the entire yet, because most people use the start of the year to create their goals, this time of year tends to make me feel especially fresh and hopeful. A new year is a new start and the perfect time to manifest your goals and hone in on your future. Creating a vision board, journaling, and repeating mantras are a couple great ways to achieve these goals. Because I am determined to stay on the right track and stay consistent with my good habits and goals, I decided to figure out how to ensure that I actually follow through. We all have good intentions when it comes to our resolutions, but sometimes good intentions are not enough. You need a solid plan. I have decided to ensure my success by narrowing down my visions and creating progress points. I personally love making vision boards because I am a very visual person and I am motivated by aesthetics. While yearly vision boards are great (and I am in the process of making one) a year is a long time and it is easy to take a whole year to do something simple if you allow yourself that much time. Oftentimes we give ourself 200 days to do something when in reality we could have easily done it in a week.

Short Term Milestones For Long Term Goals

One way to accomplish your long term goals is to create short term milestones that you want to hit. I love creating actionable goals because they can keep you accountable and ensure that you are on the right track. In order to do this, look at your yearly goal and work backwards from it. For example, say that your goal is to save $10,000 by the end of the year. In order to reach this milestone you will need to save $833 a month. To save $833 a month, you will have to save around $208 a week. By keeping this guide, you can see if you are on track. This will prevent you from experiencing any shock and mid year surprises that you are not on track.

Reminders Are Your Friend

Another way to stay on track is to stay focused and remind yourself of your goals often. We all start the year super fired up and motivated. It is easy to do that when you have your New Year resolutions fresh in your head. Year after year, the weeks go on and you start to lose motivation once you become distracted with the noise of everyday life. In order avoid this, make sure that you provide yourself with frequent reminders. If your goal is to own a home, make your screensaver a photo of your dream home. If your goal is to graduate, plan your graduation celebration and invite people to it. Vision boards are great because they serve as a visual that you can see everyday. Be sure to hang it somewhere where you will always see it. When I was in high school i absolutely loved scrapbooking. Looking back I realized that although I had not heard of vision boards, I was creating one without actually realizing it! I would print photos and quotes that I found on Tumblr and made really inspiring collages. Looking at it always made me feel so motivated and it was so visually pleasing that I would flip through it all the time. This ended up being a fun way to stay motivated because I was constantly becoming reacquainted with my vision. I decided to get back into it and start scrapbooking again. I know that this will help me to stay on top of my goals in a unique, playful way.

If you have already fallen off track, don’t worry. There is always time to start over. One of my favorite F. Scott Fitzgerald quotes says “I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you are not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.” It is NEVER too late. As long as you are determined and you follow simple steps to set yourself up for success, you can do anything you set your mind to. Stay motivated and inspired.

Let’s grow together.

  1. What an important message, that even if you fail, you should just dust yourself off and try again. It sure beats moping around and complaining. Thanks for sharing!
